Seabird Island’s Education Committee held their election yesterday, April 13, at the Annual Open House. The election opened at 2 p.m. and lasted until 6 p.m. that night.
Chief and Council called for the election in February to fill two vacancies on the Education Committee.
Band Members Sally Hope, Stacy McNeil, Ernest (Reid) Peters, and Myra Seymour ran for the two vacancies after submitting letters of interest and support by the March 30 deadline.
80 Band Members came out to cast their votes. Each voter could select up to two candidates on the ballot.
The results of the election saw Sally Hope [45 votes], and Ernest (Reid) Peters [35 votes] winning the two vacant spots on the Committee. Elected Committee members serve a term of two years.
Candidate Myra Seymour received 33 votes and Stacy McNeil received 26 votes.
The Education Committee presently meets every third Thursday of each month beginning at 8:30 a.m. unless otherwise stated.
