TAKE NOTICE THAT a referendum vote will be held by secret ballot on June 15, 2016 to determine if a majority of the electors of the Seabird Island Band are in favour of and agree to approve the Seabird Island Band Custom Election Code attached to this Notice of Vote.  Electors are members of the Seabird Island Band who are at least 18 years of age on the voting day.

AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE THAT the question to be submitted to the electors is:

Are you in favour of adopting the Seabird Island Band Election Code, which would be used to hold the election of Chief and Council instead of the election rules in the Indian Act and the Indian Band Election Regulations?

       Yes

       No

 

AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE THAT an Information Meeting will be held specifically for the Seabird Island Band members on May 31, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Seabird Island Band Office (Gym), See address below.

AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE THAT the referendum vote will be held on June 15, 2016 and the electors may vote between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., local time, at a polling station located at the following location:

2895 Chowat Road, Agassiz, B.C.  VOM 1A0

AND THAT:

Electors may vote either by a mail-in ballot or in person at a polling station, but not both.

A mail-in ballot package (including a Notice of Vote, a mail-in ballot, voter declaration, and a copy of the (insert document name here) will be mailed or delivered to electors who reside off the reserve and for whom an address has been provided by the Seabird Island Band to the Electoral Officer.

At the request of an elector who resides on the reserve, the Electoral Officer will provide the voter with these documents.

If an elector was mailed, delivered, or provided a mail-in ballot, the elector may only vote in person at the polling station if:

  • the elector returns the mail-in ballot to the Electoral Officer or Deputy Electoral Officer; or
  • where the elector has lost the mail-in ballot, or, having been sent a mail-in ballot, did not receive it, the elector provides the Electoral Officer with a written affirmation that the elector has lost, or did not receive the mail-in ballot, signed by the elector in the presence of the Electoral Officer, a justice of the peace, a notary public or a commissioner for taking oaths.

AND THAT: a list of voters is being posted at the same time and at the same locations as this Notice of Vote. Upon request, the Electoral Officer or Deputy Electoral Officer will confirm whether or not the name of a person is on the voters list. Any application for a change to the voters list may be made to the Electoral Officer at the address noted below.
