Trades
Carpentry
Level 1 teaches safe work practices related to shop, site, and personal safety plus WHMIS and Fire Safety, as well as the use of documentation and organizational skills, use of hand tools portable power tools and shop equipment, survey instruments, site layout footings and wall forms, residential house framing and building science.
Level 2 teaches safety committees, excavation shoring and building demolition practices, use of portable power tools, the use of construction drawings, interpreting building codes and bylaws, manufacturer and supplier documentation, survey instruments, rigging and hoisting equipment, site layout and concrete formwork.

Career Opportunities
Carpenters can work for a wide array of employers, including construction firms, building owners, building developers and government departments. A significant number of carpenters are union members or may be self-employed. Experienced carpenters may advance to foreman and construction super-intendent, may become contractors, inspectors or instructors.

Grade 10 or equivalent or permission of the institution. Grade 12 preferred.
Learning Objectives/Outcomes
To complete level 1 and 2 of the Carpentry program. The program is structured to provide, in addition to technical training, the work based training that would be available to an apprentice. The program is also structured so that students will achieve the majority of hours required for level one of the apprenticeship program.
Participants will leave work ready, with level 1 and 2 technical training for the Carpentry trade and the ability to safely frame a house from foundation to lockup.
Plumbing
Level One of the Plumber program gives the trainee a firm understanding of the safety practices required in the Plumbing industry and includes OHS Regulations, WCB Standards, WHMIS, personal protective equipment, control of workplace hazards and fire prevention techniques. Trainees also receive a firm foundation in the se of hand tools, portable power tools, stationary power tools, measuring and leveling tools, cutting, brazing and soldering equipment, ladders and platforms, rigging and hoisting equipment.
Students will also learn to organize their work by developing their skills in the areas of Math and Science, reading Drawings and Specifications, use of odes, regulations and standards, and use of manufacturer and supplier documentation, In Level 1, trainees will also learn tin install pipe, valves, fittings and to penetrate structures.
Level Two of the Plumber program reviews the use of measuring and leveling tools, reviews how to read drawings and specifications, and then moves into planning a project, installing sanitary drains, installing waste and vent systems, installing storm drainage systems, testing and commissioning sanitary and storm drainage systems, maintaining and repairing sanitary and storm drainage systems, installing fixtures and trims, installing appliances, testing and commissioning fixtures and appliances, and maintaining and repairing fixtures and appliances. The program then moves to understanding hydronic heating and cooling piping systems, installing hydronic systems, testing and commissioning hydronic systems and maintaining and repairing hydronic systems. The last unit of the Level 2 program deals with specialized systems including installing medical gas and compressed air systems, testing and commissioning specialized systems and maintaining and repairing specialized systems.
A final exam mark of 70% or better is required to receive credit for the course.

Career Opportunities
Plumbers are employed by plumbing contractors, maintenance departments of manufacturing, commercial, health care and educational facilities, and by plumbing service companies. They may also be self-employed. Plumbers install piping and equipment in residential, commercial, institutional and industrial buildings. They may also install specialized equipment such as medical gas equipment, compressed air equipment, residential fire systems, water conditioners, sewage and water treatment, and storage and flow systems for toxic waste. With experience, plumbers may act trainers to apprentices in the trade. They may move into other positions such as instructors, estimators and project managers.

Grade 10 or equivalent or permission of the institution. Grade 12 preferred.
Learning Objectives/Outcomes
To complete Levels one and two of the Plumbing program at a 70% or better level. The program is structured to provide, in addition to technical training, the work based training that would be available to an apprentice. Trainees will achieve the majority of hours required for one level of the apprenticeship program. Participants will leave work ready with Modules1 & 2 technical training for the Plumbing trade.
Wall and Ceiling
Module A of the Wall and Ceiling Installer program gives students a firm understanding of the career they are about to begin and starts by firmly grounding trainee in the safety practices of the industry and the safety and use of the equipment they will encounter. It also introduces students to codes, standards and material documentation, issues around mould, blueprint reading and estimating and project planning.
Mathematics for the trade runs throughout both Modules A & B. In Module B the real hands on work begins as students learn to install various types of insulation, learn to install non-load bearing metal framing, including installation of metal doors and window frames. They will also learn to install gypsum wallboard, security mesh, drywall beads and moulding, and fireproofing and soundproofing.
Students will also cover Module A of Drywall finishing but will not be able to register as an apprentice or take the final exam in this trade as they can only be registered as an apprentice in one trade at a time.
A final exam mark of 70% or better is required to receive credit for the course.

Painting and Decorating
Level One of the Painter and Decorator program gives trainees a firm understanding of the safety practices required in the Painting and Decorating industry and includes OHS Regulations, WCB Standards, Confined Space awareness, fall protection systems and equipment, personal protective equipment, control of workplace hazards and fire prevention techniques and will receive certification in First Aid and WHMIS. Trainees receive training in the selection of hand and power tools; will learn to organize their work by developing their skills in the areas of Mathematics, interpreting Drawings and Specifications, and communicating with others. In the second half of Level 1 trainees will learn to prepare and prepare drywall, plaster and metal surfaces, prepare wood surfaces, treat and repair concrete and masonry surfaces, power wash, apply paint, correct paint failures, use airless spray equipment, apply caulking, apply graphics and use colour theory.
In Level Two trainees will learn to use hoisting and lifting equipment, will continue with mathematics , will again prepare and repair metal surfaces, perform abrasive blasting and hydro cleaning, will apply industrial coatings and materials, correct paint/coating failures, use air spray equipment, prepare and install wall coverings, apply wood finishes, mix and match colours.
A final exam mark of 70% or better is required to receive credit for the course.

Career Opportunities
Painters and decorators are employed by construction companies, painting contractors, building maintenance contractors or are self-employed. They work on projects such as home interiors and exteriors, residential high rises, wall covering work, industrial tanks and plants, bridges, airports, institutions, marine and offshore projects, and other commercial and industrial projects. Experienced painters and decorators may advance to supervisory positions for painting contractors or to other related fields such as construction management, instructing or inspection.

Graphic Arts / Computer Graphics
Graphic Arts/Computer Graphics is designed to create graduates that are designed to work in the pre-production sector of the Print industry. Graduates will have a firm grasp of the principals of design and will have extensive practice in both creating and manipulating images, for a specific effect. Students will become well versed in the use of graphics software and will also learn to create a personal and a commercial website.

Career Opportunities
Computer Graphics leads to work in pre-print and print-production, including estimating a projects total cost and matching project requirements to a client’s budget. Work may include publications including books, magazines, annual reports and directories. It may also include illustrations, corporate identity, packaging, advertising, web design and multimedia design.
Experienced graphic designers can become production designers, head graphic designers, art directors and instructors.

Business Technology is a program that allows students to specialize based on their choice of courses within the program. Students will choose from courses including the use of Microsoft office, Records Management, Accounting, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Management. The program offers eleven courses from which to choose and students can mix and match courses to meet their specific needs. The program will be offered after 4:00 pm so that employees of band offices can access the program which will be available both onsite and online.

Aboriginal Speech and Language Assistant
