Daycare
The Seabird Island Daycare Centre is a fully licensed group childcare facility with spaces for 49 children between the ages of 3 months – Kindergarten. We incorporate all 7 components of Head Start into our program:
- Cultural & Language
- Education
- Health
- Nutrition
- Social Support
- Parental & Family Involvement
- Special Needs
- Emotional Competency
We provide high-quality, inclusive childcare that emphasizes emotional, physical, spiritual, cognitive and social development by offering individualized and group activities.
Our daily program offers activities such as Art, Science, Drama, Music, Language, Free play, Outdoor free play, Nutritious Snack, and Relaxing rest time. We also incorporate First Nations culture and language into our daily programming. Depending on the age and ability of the child some activities may not be offered.
The Centre is open 5 days a week, year round. The Daycare Centre offers a range of fun and educational activities such as:
- First Nations cultural activities
- Outings: community walks, trips to the zoo and aquarium
- Arts and Crafts
- Water and Sand Play
- Computer Time
- Free Play
- Seabird Island Band Events: such as the Nutrition Walk and Open House
Goal
The Daycare believes that providing a caring environment for children and providing a support system for the family are essential components of care. The centre provides a loving and supportive atmosphere in a caring and enriching environment where the staff members meet the individual needs for the social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional development of each child.
At the Seabird Island Daycare Centre, the team of staff will help the individual child’s development by encouraging the children to establish a positive self-concept and providing opportunities for active participation through play and positive interactions with peer, adults and the environment.
Am I eligible?
Daycare services are open to all clientele, First Nations and non-First Nations. This program is offered for a fee, please contact the daycare for openings, current prices for full-time, part-time and drop-ins.

Young Parents Program
Situated in the Lalme’ Iwesawtexw High School, we are ideally located to care for children whose parents attend the high school.
The Young Parents Program works in partnership with the High School and is an extension of the Seabird Daycare, a daycare that has been serving the needs of the local community for the past 10 years.
The Young Parents Program occupies a bright and airy space on the first floor of the high school. The Young Parents Program is a fully licensed daycare. The safety of your child is paramount to us.
Goal
Our goals are to:
- Provide an environment that enables the fullest all round development of each child and encourages your child’s development.
- To encourage life-long learning for children and their parents.
- To actively partner with parents to provide the children with the best possible care and education.
- To give parents the opportunity to attend classes without having to worry about finding a baby-sitter.
- To provide culturally sensitive care
- To provide quality day care that meets or exceeds licensing standards at a low-cost.
- To provide opportunities for parents to learn life skills, parenting skills and receive career and education counseling.
Am I eligible?
If you are enrolled in Lalme’ Iwesawtexw and have a child between 0 and 3 years of age you are eligible for this service.

High School students are eligible for subsidies to pay for daycare seats. Please call Carlene to apply immediately.
