The Seabird Island Band welcomes Dr. Ahmed from the Coquitlam Optometry Centre to Seabird Island for monthly Optometry Clinics. Dr. Ahmed provides clients with quality eye care and eyewear services from our Seabird Island Band Office. The Optometrist provides comprehensive eye exams which focus on your eye health and optimizing your vision.

The Seabird Island Optometry service offers onsite optical dispensary featuring a wide selection of eyewear to choose from. Dr. Ahmed also offers full contact lens service and fit all major contact lens brands at competitive prices. Appointments are necessary and services include:

If you are First Nations who are 19 years or under you are eligible for a yearly check-up and pair of eyeglasses (for specialty glasses, some costs may need to be paid out of pocket. We provide a number of eyeglass options that are no-cost.).

Mammogram

The Seabird Island Band welcomes the BC Cancer Society’s Mammogram screening clinic twice a year. Medical experts recommend that women aged 40 to 79 with no signs of a breast problem (such as lumps, nipple discharge, etc.) have a screening mammogram at least every two years - because "once is not enough". We need to compare your new mammogram with your previous exam to detect changes - early detection can save your life. Early detection of breast cancer means more treatment options and a better chance for recovery.  Having regular screening mammograms has helped to reduce deaths from breast cancer in BC women by 25%.

Screening mammograms are for women with no sign of a breast problem (see your health care provider immediately if you find a lump or any unusual changes in your breast). By age 50, women should make screening mammograms part of their regular health routine and have them at least once every two years.

Goal
Our goal is to offer First Nations women the opportunity to have yearly mammograms within our offices.

Am I eligible?
If you are 40 years of age or older, you are eligible to have a mammogram.
