IMPORTANT NOTICE – PARENTS & GUARDIANS

Ey swayel families,

We hope everyone had a restful holiday.

Yesterday the Provincial Health Officer, Minister of Safety, and Minister of Education announced that all schools would have a delayed opening after the break in order to assess the impact of the Omicron variant and to implement new safetyย measures.

This means that Seabird Island Community school will open for students onย January 10.

School staff will be at the school on Tuesday, January 4th to prepare these safety measures and welcome back the children of essential workers.

If you are an essential services worker, please send an email to steveb@seabirdisland.ca, so we can make arrangements for your child or children to be at school starting on January 4.ย

We will send out additional information next week with regard to these proactive new safety measures.

Hello everyone,

In light of continued rainfall and flooding in southern BC, Transport Canada has expanded the scope of the recreational boating restrictions to include the Chilliwack and Coquihalla Rivers. Specifically:

  1. Chilliwack River and the waters over the floodplains from Chilliwack Lake to, and including, Vedder River, and also including Slesse Creek
  2. Coquihalla River and the waters over the floodplains along the Coquihalla Highway and Crowsnest Highway from Shylock Road to where the Coquihalla River meets the Fraser River

We have also added an exception for crews performing infrastructure repairs on behalf of a local authority. Those acting on behalf of Indigenous groups continue to be exempt from the Order.

Seabird Island / Tyit Tribe / Stรณ:lล Nation – ARTIST CALL

This Artist Call is for all Seabird Island / Tyit Tribe / Stรณ:lล Nation artists, living in or outside their territory, with personal ties to Seabird. Seabird Island is building a new community center. We want our history and culture in the building, giving everyone a strong feel for who we are and where we come from when they step inside. The artwork will speak to our relationship to the river, the mountains, the plants and animals, to neighbours and families. It might speak to family trees and cultural activities of that family. It will speak to our past and our future on the land.
