I would like to thank the community for their participation in the Spay It Forward Program, it is amazing to see everyone showing such interest! Lots of pets are going to be happier and healthier thanks to this initiative. Due to the limited dates and surgery spots available, the SPCA has a second program to help people with the spaying and neutering of their cats.
Those with female cats are asked to fill out a form for their voucher program, and the SPCA team will reach out with further details. This will allow for more animals to get spayed/neutered faster.
When submitting the form for the voucher program, please let them know you are part of the Seabird Spay It Forward program.
Please fill out the form here:

2021 BC Parks Student Ranger Intern postings are now Live!

Hello Everyone,

It is my pleasure to share with you this yearโ€™s BC Parks Youth Employment Program for students across the province! Please forward this announcement to any organizations and individuals you think may be interested including First Nations community contacts and associations, local post-secondary institutions, and local youth in your communities. The postings will be live for a short period (10 more days!) so please distribute soon to allow candidates enough time to apply.

Operating under the broader umbrella of the StrongerBC Future Leaders Program, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy has revised the 2021 BC Parks Youth Employment Program to provide youth with employment opportunities in BC Parks and the Conservation Officer Service (COS), while receiving mentorship from existing BC Parks and COS staff.

For the 2021 season, the BC Parks Youth Employment Program will see 37 youth employed across the province. 11 co-op positions will be available through the Provincial Service Branch and 26 Student Ranger Internships will be available through the Regional Operations Branch. Eligible candidates for the 2021 season are Canadian residents, that have been enrolled in full-time studies at an accredited institution within the past 6-months. Additional requirements and criteria can be viewed in the job postings. BC Parks strongly encourages students from Indigenous backgrounds to apply for these positions.

26 Student Ranger Intern positions will be available across the Province, with 4 Student Ranger Interns in each Region and an additional 2 working for Regional Operations Branch. (Youth Employment Program classification). Intern locations for 2021 include Black Creek (Miracle Beach Provincial Park), Chilliwack (Cultus Lake Provincial Park), Cranbrook, Fort St John, Hagensborg, ย Penticton, Prince George, Smithers, Squamish (Alice Lake Provincial Park), Terrace, Victoria (Goldstream Provincial Park), Parksville (Rathtrevor Provincial Park), Kamloops, North Vancouver, and Williams Lake.

There are 5 different types of internships for Student Ranger Interns including planning, recreation services, community engagement, administration, and conservation. Each Region has been given discretion regarding which type of internships to offer.

The competitions for these positions are now posted to the BC government job board and the application deadline is April 25th, 2021. Please have interested applicants visit the BC Parks Youth Employment web page (2021 Youth Employment Program โ€“ BC Parks) for more information on how to learn more and to apply for these job opportunities.

The Fraser Valley Child Development Centre and Seabird Island Band are excited to announce a new partnership benefiting children and families in the community. While the organizations are longtime collaborators, this is their first formal partnership agreement.
โ€œThis partnership will enable us to strengthen relationships and cultural understanding, while delivering critical support to children and families in the Seabird Island community,โ€ said Karen Dickenson Smith, executive director, Fraser Valley Child Development Centre. โ€œIt is part of our shared commitment to building healthier, more unified and inclusive communities.โ€
The two organizations will work together to support the delivery of culturally sensitive speech-language pathology services that enhance childrenโ€™s growth, well-being, and participation.
โ€œAll children should have access to the services and supports they need,โ€ said Carlene Brown, director of early childhood development at Seabird Island Band. โ€œWe hope to help each child reach his or her fullest potential by helping them learn the tools of effective communication.โ€
Seabird Island Band exists to promote a healthier, self-sufficient, self-governing, unified and educated community. We believe that a healthy community is one that has achieved physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and cultural balance. (www.seabirdisland.ca)
