Scholarships & Incentives
The Seabird Island Band offers a number of education scholarships and incentives to our Band Members who are currently attaining higher education. These awards are subject to the availability of funds and at the discretion of the awards selection team in accordance with the Seabird policies and can only be awarded once each year to eligible students for academic achievement.
To Access these Incentives Students must present an Original Institution Document.
- Certificate Program Completion Up to $500.00
- Diploma Program Completion Up to $1,000.00
- Bachelors Degree Program Completion Up to $2,000.00
- Master’s Degree Program Completion Up to $3,000.00
- PhD Degree Program Completion Up to $4,000.00
- Professional Degree Program Completion Up to $4,000.00 (i.e. Doctor, Dentist, Lawyer, etc.)
Strategic Studies Scholarship Level 2
Maximum available $3,500 per year to be awarded at the discretion of the Education Committee. The incentive amount the applicant receives depends on availability and number of students applying.Academic achievement yearly scholarships are available to one full-time student in a diploma or degree program. The student must be returning to full-time studies in the fall and have good academic standing.
To apply, students are required to send a letter outlining their academic achievement and meet the following criteria:
- Must be a currently registered full-time student in a diploma or degree program in the areas of commerce, public or business administration, physical science, mathematics, computer sciences, forestry, or engineering.
- Must have completed one year of studies.
- Must be returning to full-time studies in the fall.
- Students must have an overall grade average of B or better.
- Must be in good standing with Seabird Island; students who have outstanding debt, loans, repayment agreements are not eligible to apply.
- Must forward a letter detailing his or her academic achievement during his or her academic year and include an official transcript of grades in a sealed envelope to the Education Coordinator no later than July 31.
- Faxed letters and transcripts will not be accepted.
- All applications will be reviewed by the Education Committee. Applicants will be notified of the Committee’s selection by August 31.
- Students may only receive this award once.
Post-Graduate Level 3 Incentive
Maximum available $1,500 per student per year to be awarded at the discretion of the Education Committee.Full-time students entering the second year or students completing a post-graduate program may be eligible for a one-time maximum $1,500 incentive.
To apply, students are required to send a letter detailing their program of study and meet the following criteria:
- Must be a currently registered full-time student or completing a Post-graduate degree program.
- Must have an overall grade average of B or better.
- Must be in good standing with Seabird Island; students who have outstanding debt, loans, or repayment agreements are not eligible to apply.
- Must forward a letter detailing his or her program of study and include an official transcript of grades in a sealed envelope to the
- Education Coordinator no later than July 31.

Academic Achievement Scholarship
Maximum available is $1,000 per year to be awarded at the discretion of the Education Committee. Maximum amount available per students is $200. Academic achievement yearly incentives are available to full-time students carrying a full program load and in good academic standing.To apply, students are required to send a letter and meet the criteria below:
- Must be a currently registered full-time student in a level one or level two programs.
- Upon completion of a level one or level two program unless returning to full time studies in the fall.
- Must have an overall grade average of B or better.
- Must be in good standing with Seabird Island; students who have outstanding debt, loans, or repayment agreements are not eligible to apply.
- Must forward a letter of application detailing his or her program of study and include an official transcript of grades in a sealed envelope to the Education Coordinator no later than July 31.
- Faxed letters and transcripts will not be accepted.
- All applications will be reviewed by the Education Committee. Applicants will be notified of the Committee’s selection by August 31.
Graduate Incentives
Upon successful completion of a program of study, students may be eligible for the following graduation incentive awards:
- To apply, students are required to send a letter and a copy of the credential by July 31.
- Must have completed a certificate, diploma, degree or post-graduate degree.
- Must be in good standing with Seabird Island; students who have outstanding debt, loans, or repayment agreements are not eligible to apply.
- Must forward a letter of application detailing his or her program of study and include an official transcript of grades in a sealed envelope no later than July 31. Eligible students must send a letter before the deadline and then submit a copy of their certificate once it has been received.
Elementary/Secondary In-School Program
Graduation Incentive ($100.00)
Upon completing their grade 12 studies a student may apply for the Graduation Incentive. The student applying for the graduation incentive must meet the following criteria:
- Student must have successfully completed Grade 12.
- Student must be listed on Seabird Island Bands’ current year Nominal Roll Report.
- Students may only receive the Grade 12 Graduation Incentive once in their lifetime.
All Incentives issued will be given to the student in June during the Annual Awards Ceremony.
Graduation Supplement ($200.00)
Students graduating with their Grade 12 Dogwood Diploma may apply for the Graduation Supplement. The graduation supplement is a contribution made by the Seabird Island Education Department to go towards the students’ graduation costs. Students applying for the graduation supplement must meet the following criteria:
- Student must have successfully completed Grade 12.
- Student must be listed on Seabird Island Bands’ current year Nominal Roll Report.
- Students may only receive the Grade 12 Supplement Incentive once in their lifetime.
Honor Roll Incentive
To be eligible for the honor roll incentive a student must meet the following criteria:
- Must be listed on Seabird Island Bands’ current year Nominal Roll Report.
- Must have attained an “A” or “B” letter grade or be listed on the “Effort Honor Roll” for any or all of the terms throughout the school year.
The amount a student receives will be divided by the applicable school terms and awarded for each term based on their achievement. Students will only receive one honour roll amount per term, for example if a student is listed both on the “B” and Effort Honour Roll they will only receive the “B” Honour Roll amount for that term.
The maximum amount that can be awarded:
- “A” Honour Roll- $225.00/year
- “B” Honour Roll- $200.00/year
- “Effort” Honour Roll- $175.00/year
