Supported Child Development

The Supported Child Development program provides services to Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal children who require extra support due to physical, social, intellectual, emotional and developmental challenges. Children are provided support in a variety of ways in order to support them to meet their full potential in inclusive child care centers.

Services are family centered and designed to maximize participation and learning in children 0-19 years, with priority for children 0-6 years. All referrals considered.

We believe that:

  • A family has the ultimate decision making and advocacy powers for their child.
  • A family has the right and responsibility to shape decisions about the care and education of their child.
  • SSCDP should support families and Childcare Providers by empowering them to make meaningful and informed decisions.
  • A family’s and child’s individuality must be respected, forming the foundation for service.
  • All children have the right to access equal options for childcare, provided in a setting of their choice. This may include group or family daycare, after-school programs (public or Band operated), and under special circumstances, home based settings (nuclear or extended family).
  • A family and their child(ren) have the right to access culturally sensitive services.
  • Confidentiality should be maintained.
