Naturopathic Medicine
Welcome to the Naturopathic Clinic of the Seabird Island Health Centre. Our team will work together to enhance existing health care at Seabird.
On your first visit you can expect to undergo a thorough medical history. The second visit generally consists of a physical examination. Further diagnostic investigation may be recommended as needed for your care. Subsequently, we will work to present you with treatment options and to mentor and adjust your program over time.
What is naturopathic medicine?
Naturopathic Medicine is a holistic coordinated approach to health care that respects the individuality of each person. It is the art and science of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease primarily using naturally derived therapies and gentle techniques. Naturopathic Physicians (ND) are trained as primary care general practitioners who use a holistic approach to address each person’s unique needs.
ND’s are trained to identify the underlying cause of disease, to remove obstacles to healing and to support each patient’s healing on all levels. The approach to treatment utilizes the least invasive and most effective methods to support each individual person’s innate ability to heal. In addition to treatment, Naturopathic Medicine also focuses on disease prevention and health enhancement using various Naturopathic Therapies and through patient education. An important role of the ND is to teach patients how to manage their own health.
Naturopathic and Conventional medicine compliment each other, despite having distinctly different philosophies of healing. ND’s are trained to work as part of a health care team, ant to refer to other health care providers when it is in the patient’s best interest.
