Information & Crisis Communications
Information & Crisis Communications work together to support the organization and are important for ensuring clear, timely, and trustworthy messaging that helps guide decision‑making, maintains public confidence, and keeps our community informed during both routine day-to-day operations and emergency events.
Daily Operations:
An Information Officer is responsible for managing, organizing, and sharing accurate information with the public and internal teams. The role ensures clear, timely communication, maintains information systems, responds to inquiries, and supports transparency across the organization. Information Officers often prepare public‑facing materials, coordinate media relations, and help maintain consistent messaging that reflects organizational values.
Crisis Communications is the strategic management of messaging during events that threaten an organization’s reputation, operations, or public trust. It involves rapid, transparent communication, coordinated messaging across channels, and maintaining stakeholder confidence before, during, and after a crisis. Effective crisis communications protects credibility, prevents misinformation, and ensures the organization responds with clarity, accuracy, and empathy.
As Part of Emergency Support Services:
The ESS Information Officer manages the flow of accurate, timely information during Emergency Support Services activations. The Information Officer tracks key details, answers phones, creates dialogue for communications and liaises external interviews with Media and Chief, Council or the CEO.
ESS Crisis Communications focuses on delivering fast, reliable, and compassionate messaging during emergencies that affect the community. This includes public updates, safety information, media coordination, and guidance for evacuees. Crisis Communications ensures information is shared responsibly, reduces misinformation, and supports community trust by communicating with clarity, empathy, and cultural awareness during high‑stress situations.
