Aboriginal Head Start On-Reserve (AHSOR)

The Head Start Program fosters a nurturing community where children can thrive. Known also as Parents and Tots Drop-in, this initiative cultivates an environment where young minds are free to embark on a lifelong quest for knowledge. By promoting cultural awareness and a safe space for development, Head Start enables children to reach their full potential and lay the foundations for a happy, healthy future.

Family-Centered

The Head Start Program: Comprehensive Early Childhood Education for Seabird Island Families

The Head Start program at Seabird Island is a nurturing, family-centered initiative designed to support the developmental needs of young children and provide resources for parents. This culturally-relevant pre-school program takes a holistic approach to early childhood education, promoting physical, cognitive, spiritual, emotional and intellectual growth.

Head Start’s comprehensive curriculum includes seven key components: Health, Nutrition, Parental Involvement, Stō:lō Culture, Halq’emeylem Language, Social Support, and Special Needs. Children enjoy engaging activities, field trips and lessons aimed at stimulating curiosity and learning. Parents actively participate in lessons and spend quality time bonding with children.

The Head Start environment empowers children to reach their full potential with a wealth of educational, social and cultural resources. Families flourish through active partnerships in their child’s development. Thriving children and strong family bonds build a foundation of skills, knowledge and community that benefit families for years.

Head Start facilitates bright futures for Seabird Island children through holistic early childhood education and dedicated family support.
